HD Ratings: Is the Honeymoon Over for Wife Swap?
TVNZ 2’s Wife Swap NZ lost its primetime darling status on Thursday when it rated well below the previous week’s season premiere.
It lost to both TVNZ 1’s Doctor Doctor, and Three’s Lego Masters Australia and the movie R.I.P.D. in three of the four core commercial demographics.
It fared better among household shoppers with kids but its 7.3% average was two points lower than the previous week’s 9.6%.
Given it was the season finale of Lego, there was heightened interest in Thursday’s episode of the Aussie hit, which also overran the start of Wife Swap.
But tellingly Doctor Doctor’s ratings were up sharply. It averaged 4.8% of 25-54 year olds compared to 3.8% the previous week, and 4.1% of 18-49s versus 3.4%.
Wife Swap respectively averaged 4.3% and 3.4% of these demos, and 2.4% of 18-39s.
R.I.P.D. dominated from 9.00, to average 3.2% of 25-54s (vs Coronation Street’s 1.7% and Take Me Out’s 2.1%), and 2.7% of 18-49s (vs CS’ 1.3% and TMO’s 1.7%).
Earlier, TVNZ 1’s George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces proved exceptionally sturdy against Lego and TVNZ 2’s Police Ten 7 and Highway Patrol.
It averaged 6.5% of 25-54s off the back of an extraordinarily high rating Seven Sharp (7.3%), with the second half winning the 8.00-8.30 zone in all the core demos.
As a result, TVNZ 1 scored the night’s biggest 25-54 and 18-498 shares while TVNZ 2 led the other top demos.

Actually last week was the third episode of Wife Swap – I’ve really been enjoying them!
Thanks for that, Tony.
EP3 not typical of the series run so far. Police 10 7 and Highway Cops also down that night thanks to the final of Lego Masters. EP4 and EP5 both won in all but 5+ and audience share and figures have maintained very well across the run. OnDemand ratings are apparently huge (if you have access to those).
