HD Ratings: Kia Ora Knocks Off Rival

In the battle of the Kiwi documentaries on Tuesday, Three’s Kia Ora, Good Evening out-rated TVNZ 1’s Speak No Maori in the core commercial demographics.

The Mike McRoberts profile averaged 2.6% of 25-54 year-olds and 1.5% of 18-49s vs 1.8%/1.3% for the Maori Language week special.

Three was going to follow Kia Ora with a 25th anniversary documentary series about Princess Diana’s death but in the wake of the Queen’s, replaced it with season five of Aussie Gold Hunters.

It seemed an unlikely alternative but the reality show won the 9.30 hour in the 25-54 demo (1.3%) and was competitive among 18-49s (0.7%).

The network rounded off its primetime line-up with a win in both key demos for Newshub Late after starting the night strongly when The Block NZ: Redemption level-pegged with TVNZ 1’s Eat Well for Less?.

Both Block and Eat Well improved significantly week-on-week whereas TVNZ 2’s Celebrity Treasure Island slipped among 18-49s and was up only slightly with 25-54s, averaging 3.0% of the latter (vs 4.1% for Eat Well and Block) and 2.2% of the former (vs 2.7% for its rivals).

NCIS: Hawai’i (2.3%/1.4%) narrowly lost to Kia Ora while Australian Survivor led Coronation Street with 1.1%/0.8%.

TVNZ 1 won the night with 28+ shares of the core demos and Three finished 5-7 points ahead of TVNZ 2.

Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
