HD Ratings: Kingsman 2 Golden for TVNZ 2
Despite TVNZ 2’s network movie premiere of Kingsman: The Golden Circle blowing away the competition on Sunday, TVNZ 1 still won the night in three of the four core commercial demograhics.
The spy romp sequel averaged 4.5% of 25-54 year-olds, 3.9% of 18-49s, 3.0% of 18-39s and 4.2% of household shoppers with kids to win its slot in all the demos.
TVNZ 1’s chief competition, Your Home Made Perfect, averaged 1.6% – 4.2%, to finish ahead of Pitch Perfect’s 2.0% – 2.7% on Three.
But TVNZ 1 scored strongly earlier, when The Family Chase, 1 News at 6pm, Hyundai Country Calendar and Sunday dominated across the board.
The only notable challenge came from TVNZ 2’s The Great Kiwi Bake Off, the last third of which out-rated the tail end of Sunday in the 18-49 and 18-39 demos.
Bake Off easily trounced Three’s The Block Australia, beating it by roughly two ratings points in all the key demos except 18-39, where its lead was narrower.
Relocating The Simpsons back for its top-rating Friday slot to Sundays still hasn’t paid off for TVNZ 2.
Sunday’s new 6.30 episode averaged 2.2% of 18-49s, versus 6.1% for 1 News and 4.5% for Three’s Newshub Live, 2.4% of 25-54s, and 1.7% of 18-39s and HHS/k.
Prime’s new Griff’s Great Kiwi Road Trip averaged a solid 2.0% of 25-54s and lead-out The Brokenwood Mysteries, 1.7%.
TVNZ 1 also dominated Saturday, with its line-up of 1 News, The Casketeers, MasterChef Australia and Dinner Date in all the core demos except 18-39, who opted for TVNZ 2’s movies.
TVNZ 1 carried Friday night as well in the same demos, with the season premiere of Doc Martin proving competitive against TVNZ 2’s 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and winning the slot outright among 25-54s and HHS/k.
Three’s The Graham Norton Show won the 8.00 hour with 18-49s and 18-39s but 25-54s and HHS/k had a bigger appetite for MasterChef Australia.
Three’s broadcast of the Vodafone NZ Music Awards on Thursday couldn’t beat TVNZ 2’s repeats of Travel Guides and Have You Been Paying Attention? but was more popular than TVNZ 1’s line-up, averaging 1.6% – 2.7% of the key demos.
TVNZ 2 won the night across the board, although Three’s Moving Out With Kanoa made a respectable 7.30 debut, averaging 2.0% – 3.8% in the face of formidable competition on the TVNZ channels.
Wednesday was another trophy night for TVNZ 1. Three’s double-episode of The Block Australia finished third from 7.30-9.30 but lead-out Hawaii Five-O won its slot with 25-54s and 18-49s.
