HD Ratings: Lego Starts to Topple DWTS
Monday’s broadcast of TVNZ 2’s Lego Masters NZ narrowly out-rated Three’s Dancing with the Stars in the 25-54 demographic but lost to it in the 18-49 demo.
It was a topsy-turvy result given Three targets 25-54 year-olds and TVNZ 2 18-49 year-olds.
Lego averaged 4.1% of 25-54s vs 4.0% for DWTS, and 3.3% of 18-49s vs 3.7%.
Its opening half-hour lost to TVNZ 1’s Fair Go, which averaged 4.4% of 25-54s and 2.9% of 18-49s, whereas DWTS led with 18-49s for the hour.
Both franchises thrashed TVNZ 1’s Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad, which averaged 3.7%/2.3%.
Lego built its audience in both demos over the hour, helping lead-out Down for Love to win the 8.30 hour in the 18-49 race (2.6%) and seesaw with TVNZ 1’s Gordon, Gino & Fred’s Road Trip in the 25-54 demo (3.1%).
Gordo’s crowd averaged 3.2% of 25-54s and 2.0% of 18-49s vs 2.5%/2.2% for Three’s 9-1-1.
Sister show 9-1-1 Lone Star averaged 1.3% of both demos opposite TVNZ 1’s 20/20, which was down week-on-week (1.7%/1.0%), and TVNZ 2’s Aroha Nui I Do (1.8%/1.3%).
Earlier, TVNZ 2’s Shortland Street (2.8%/2.3%) was crushed by TVNZ 1’s Seven Sharp (5.5%/4.2%) and Three’s The Project (4.3%/3.4%). And the 6.00 first-run The Simpsons couldn’t top 0.1% against the rival networks’ flagship news bulletin.
Among the smaller HD channels, Duke was the most popular with its ‘toon block averaging 0.3%-0.7% of the core demos.
TVNZ 1 won the night’s biggest share of 25-54s and Three the biggest share of 18-49s.
Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
