HD Ratings: Lightning Strikes and Shorty Triumphs
Monday’s return of Shortland Street resuscitated TV2’s 7pm ratings while TV3’s HD premiere of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was a hit with the network’s target audiences.
Shortland Street’ hour-long season premiere averaged a whopping 17.4% – 19.4% of the key demographics and helped to deliver strong sampling of Mr T’s World’s Craziest Fools (11.3% – 12.9%), which will regularly screen 9.30 Fridays.
But the return of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice struggled against TV3’s movie.
The former averaged 9.0% – 9.6%, and won the 8.30 hour with TV2’s 18-39 demo and household shoppers.
But the latter was beaten in all the key demos by Percy, which averaged 7.4% – 8.9%, and was most popular with 25-54 and 18-49 year-olds (among who the first half out-rated Grey’s).
TV One’s High Country Rescue season-finale rated 4.7% – 8.2%, off the back of a weak lead-in from Piha Rescue, which, along with TV3’s The Block, was stymied by the second half of Shortland Street.

I quite enjoyed Percy Jackson … strange seeing Pierce Brosnan as a centaur 🙂
Ack, I switched it off after the first half hour. A for awful, would have probably rated it lower if I had read the books.
We enjoyed the Percy Jackson movie too. Not a great movie but still an enjoyable watch.
