HD Ratings: Lomas Builds on Lego
Abruptly replacing Lego Masters USA with a repeat of David Lomas Investigates paid off modestly in the ratings for Three on Thursday.
Lomas still lost to TVNZ 2’s MasterChef Australia and TVNZ 1’s Tokyo Olympics coverage, which easily led the night in the core commercial demographics.
But Lomas’ 25-54 average of 2.9% improved on Lego’s 2.5% the previous week.
In the 18-49 demo, Lomas improved only one-tenth of a point on Lego.
But given there was scarcely any notice of Lego’s pre-emption, and the popularity of Lomas during its original run, expect Three’s viewership in this slot to continue to improve, especially from next week with Olympians no longer dominating primetime.
However, MasterChef will continue to be a formidable competitor. Thursday’s episode averaged 4.0% of 25-54s and the final quarter-hour segment was only one rating point behind the Olympics.
Lead-out Police Ten 7 averaged 3.1% of 25-45s and 2.4% of 18-49s vs 1.7% / 1.5% for that half-hour of Three’s ‘Crocodile’ Dundee. (The movie averaged 1.5% of 25-54s overall and 1.3% of 18-49s.)
TVNZ 2’s A Current Affair averaged 1.8% / 1.2% of the core demos and Coronation Street 0.9% / 0.8%.
At 7.00, TVNZ 1’s Seven Sharp crushed TVNZ 2’s Shortland Street and Three’s The Project in the key demos.
TVNZ 1’s games coverage notched up 30+ shares of the major demos while TVNZ 2 was 3-4 points ahead of Three for the night.
