HD Ratings: The Masked Singer NZ’s Prayers Answered

Paul Ego’s revelation as Playing Mantis on Sunday’s The Masked Singer NZ boosted the show’s ratings so much that it beat TVNZ 2’s season final of MasterChef Australia in the core commercial demographics.

It averaged 4.6% of 25-54 year-olds and 3.6% of 18-49s. That wasn’t enough to top TVNZ 1’s Hyundai Country Calendar (6.0%/4.2%) and Sunday (4.9%/3.6%) but the race was much tighter than usual.

MasterChef had to settle for leftovers, with 2.7% of 25-54s and 2.4% of 18-49s.

TVNZ 1 dominated the rest of the night with The Brokenwood Mysteries.

It averaged 2.1%/1.7% vs 1.0%/0.9% for TVNZ 2’s Die Hard 2 (which started half-an-hour later) and 2.4%/1.4% for Three’s premiere of Infinite (which started half-an-hour earlier).

On the smaller HD channels, Prime’s The Equalizer and Duke’s Top Gear America averaged 0.3%/0.2%, and Eden’s American Hustle and Whakaata Māori’s premiere of Oscar-winner Minari 0.0%.0.0% of each key demo.

Earlier, 1 News averaged three times as many 25-54 and 18-49 viewers as Newshub Live.

TVNZ 1 won the night with roughly 34% shares of the core demos while Three finished well ahead of TVNZ 2.

Saturday’s free-to-air viewership was decimated by Sky Sport’s All Blacks test coverage, which averaged 8.2% of 25-54s and 6.5% of 18-49s; Prime’s delayed coverage averaged 0.0%.

Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
