HD Ratings: MasterChef Beats Apprentice

TVNZ 2’s season premiere of MasterChef Australia improved on time-slot predecessor Popstars but still couldn’t beat Three’s The Masked Singer NZ in the core commercial demographics.

It averaged 3.2% of 25-54 year-olds and 2.2% of 18-49s vs 6.1% / 4.9% for Masked Singer.

It also lost to TVNZ 1’s Spotlight: Craig McLachlan, which averaged 4.9% / 2.7%, and the first half of Three’s 9-1-1, which averaged 3.2% / 2.3% over the hour.

But the extra-long episode, which aired from 7.30-9.30, trounced TVNZ 1’s The Apprentice Aotearoa, which slipped to 1.9% / 1.5% for the 8.30 hour.

It also out-rated the second half of 9-1-1, while TVNZ 1’s 20/20 and Three’s 9-1-1: Lone State lost to TVNZ 2’s network movie premiere of I Feel Pretty.

The Amy Schumer comedy averaged 2.0% of 25-54s and 1.8% of 18-49s.

TVNZ 1 won the night’s biggest share of 25-54s while Three narrowly dominated with 18-49s.

TVNZ 1 led Sunday evening, with 1 News, Hyundai Country Calendar and Sunday winning their slots in the key demos.

But its premiere of Kiwi dramedy A Love Yarn flopped, averaging only 2.4% of 25-54s and 1.5% of 18-49s vs 3.6% / 2.3% for Three’s FTA premiere of Tomb Raider.

TVNZ 2’s movies Blended and The Intern finished third while its new castigated game show 9 Lives averaged only 0.6% of 25-54s and 0.5% of 18-49s.

Despite unravelling with Yarn, TVNZ 1 easily won the night’s biggest 25-54 and 18-49 shares.

  1. Surprised that Masked Singer rated any good last night given it was just a behind the scenes filler ep! Spotlight: Craig McLachlan was quite interesting.

  2. I have a feeling The Masked Singer will be back for season 2 next year, actually it’s interesting that Warner Bros are mentioned in the credits for the show, it’s the same for David Lomas Investigates 🙂
