HD Ratings: MasterChef Creams Big Brother
Three is promoting Big Brother as the #1 show in Australia but here it’s a l’il bro’ in the ratings.
Following the premier’s defeat on Sunday, Monday’s and Tuesday’s episodes were thrashed by TVNZ 2’s MasterChef Australia in all the core commercial demographics.
And both shows were out-rated by the competition on TVNZ 1 in every key demo except household shoppers with kids.
Monday’s Fair Go averaged 8.0% of TVNZ 1’s target 25-54 demo and its stablemate Breaking Dad 7.0% vs 4.7% for MasterChef and 2.9% for Big Brother.
But TVNZ 2’s MKR: The Rivals won its slot with 3.6% of 25-54s vs 3.4% for TVNZ 1’s Bodyguard and 2.3% for Three’s Special Victims Unit.
In TVNZ 2’s 18-49 demo, MKR averaged 2.4% to tie with Bodyguard but was well ahead of SVU (1.9%).
Replacing Q+A with repeats of Autopsy barely moved the ratings needle for TVNZ 1. It averaged 1.9% of 25-54s and 2.1% of viewers 5+; the previous week’s Q+A averaged 1.6% and 2.3% respectively.
TVNZ 1 won the night in all they demos except household shoppers with kids, which TVNZ 2 dominated.
Here are Monday’s 20 most-watched primetime programmes on the free-to-air HD channels (excluding +1 and in order of their 5+ rating and audience share):

You wouldn’t think those figures are sustainable for very long for Three.
Yes, Clint, not a promising stat but often the Aussie formats take a few weeks to find their feet. But switching MasterChef to TVNZ 2 seems to have been a masterful move when TVNZ 1 has such a strong 7.30 line-up.
