HD Ratings: MKR Steady But Not Unrivalled

The new-look My Kitchen Rules made a competitive debut on Monday, seesawing with Three’s Lego Masters in the 5+ and core commercial demographics.

MKR: The Rivals lost across the board to TVNZ 1’s Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad and was pipped by Lego in TVNZ 2’s key demo, 18-49.

But it out-rated its Aussie rival in the 5+ and 25-54 demos, and the two were split among 18-39s.

Despite higher free-to-air viewership because of the COVID-19 lockdowns, MKR’s season premiere was well down on last year’s.

Season 10 opened with 6.0% of 18-49s compared with The Rivals’ 4.5% and 6.8% of 25-54s vs 5.9%.

Breaking Dad continues to be a huge hit for TVNZ 1 off the back of exceptional ratings for lead-ins 1 News and Seven Sharp, helping the network to again win the night with commanding shares of all the top demos.

Here are Monday’s most-watched primetime programmes on the free-to-air HD channels (excluding +1 and in order of their 5+ rating and audience share):

Those 1 News ratings are astounding. As they have been all through Covid. Try as it might, Newshub just can’t get a way through there. Even in demos it’s being obliterated.

  2. I agree, Clint — absolutely extraordinary.
