HD Ratings: Movie Casts Pall Over Nightmares
TVNZ’s 9.30 Monday shows proved vulnerable to TV3’s re-run of the movie Paul, with both The Following and Kitchen Nightmares losing to it in all the major demographics except household shoppers with kids.
The ET comedy averaged 4.4% – 5.6% and largely lost the 8.30 hour to TV2’s comedies and TV One’s Person of Interest.
The latter rated 2.9% – 8.5% and was competitive with Super Fun Night (7.3% – 9.5%) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (5.2% – 6.9%).
The police comedy continues to be TV2’s Achilles heel on Monday, and isn’t helping lead-out Kitchen Nightmares’ prospects, with this week’s episode averaging only 3.7% – 6.4%.
It was tops with HHS but didn’t rate above 4.0% in the other key demos.
The Following also remains a persistently low-rating liability for TV One, with Monday’s episode drawing only 2.0% – 3.8%.
As a result, both programmes trailed the second hour of Paul.
But earlier in the night, TV One’s MasterChef NZ (6.5% – 10.0%) dominated with adults 18-49 and 25-54.
It couldn’t match The Middle’s 8.8% – 14.6% but out-rated Trophy Wife (7.5% – 12.9%) in these demos.
TV3’s Road Cops averaged 5.3% – 8.3% and its season premiere of Kings Cross ER, 4.4% – 6.0%.
These, combined with lower-than-usual figures for its Monday movie, meant TV3 suffered losses in all the key demos week-on-week while TV One and TV2 generally gained.
Monday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:
- Adults 18-49: TV One, 6.5 rating/22.7 share; TV2, 7.0 rating/24.1 share; TV3, 6.1 rating/21.0 share
- Adults 18-39: TV One, 5.1 rating/20.7 share; TV2, 6.9 rating/28.0 share; TV3, 5.3 rating/21.5 share
- Adults 25-54: TV One, 8.1 rating/23.9 share; TV2, 7.8 rating/23.0 share; TV3, 7.3 rating/21.5 share
- HHS: TV One, 9.2 rating/26.4 share; TV2, 10.2 rating/29.5 share; TV3, 6.0 rating/17.3 share.
