HD Ratings: My Kitchen NZ Starts to Rule

Monday’s shock exit of My Kitchen Rules NZ frontrunners Hannah and Cathy helped the TV2 show to out-rate TV3’s The Block NZ: Villa Wars in crucial demographics.

It averaged 5.4% – 10.9% of the commercial demos compared to its rival’s 5.8% – 10.0%.

MKR was more popular in the 25-54 and household shopper demos while The Block drew more viewers aged 18-39 and 18-49.

However, both shows were seriously challenged by TV1’s Border Security International (6.1% – 10.4%) and The Force (6.3% – 9.4%).

Both reality staples won the 7.30 hour in the 25-54 race and Border Security International won its slot in the 18-39 and 18-49 demos, too.

But the clear winner at 8.30 was TV2’s Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud 2, which averaged 7.4% – 12.7% to scoop all the core demos.

That left TV1’s Criminal Minds (4.5% – 7.6%) to seesaw with TV3’s Heroes Reborn (3.7% – 6.1%), although the former was more popular in three of the key demos.

TV2 also dominated at 9.30, with The Walking Dead (5.7% – 9.0%) walking all over TV1’s Castle (1.3%- 5.2%) and TV3’s 3D (0.7% – 1.2%).

As a result, TV2 won the night in three of the core demos while TV3 finished a distant third:

On Sunday, TV2’s network movie premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire averaged 5.4% – 7.8% to win its slot but lost its first hour to TV3’s Grand Designs NZ (6.2% – 8.9%) in the 25-54 demo.

But The Block (7.2% – 10.4%) won at 7.30 opposite TV2’s Supergirl (5.0% – 9.3%), which continues to climb higher each week, while TV1’s Life Story (3.6% – 7.1%) was competitive in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

Lead-out Call the Midwife averaged 1.7% – 4.8% ahead of Love Child’s 1.1% – 3.5%, which seesawed with TV3’s Satisfaction (1.9% – 4.2%).

The result was a keenly contested night, with TV2 again dominating but by a much narrower margin:

On Saturday, TV2’s movies ruled while the network’s fortune rose sharply on Friday, when Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris scored a season high.

It averaged 5.1% – 9.8% and unseated TV3’s perennial 8.30 champ, The Graham Norton Show (4.9% – 5.9%) in the 18-39, 18-49 and HHS demos.

Killer Karaoke (3.8% – 7.0%) improved hugely on RuPaul’s Drag Race at 9.30, beating 7 Days (4.7% – 5.5%) and Funny Girls (3.5% – 4.0%) in the HHS demo and challenging them in the rest.
