HD Ratings: NCIS Duo Still Dynamic
Three’s ageing procedurals NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles proved why they’ve endured for so long on Tuesday when they won their slots in the core commercial demographics.
It was a complete turnaround from the previous week, when TVNZ 2’s NCIS: Hawai’i and SEAL Team dominated.
But this week NCIS easily won, with 2.3% of 25-54 year-olds vs 1.1% for Hawai’i and 1.4% for TVNZ 1’s The Big Body Hotel.
Viewers have not had an appetite for this reality series, which enjoyed a much bigger lead-in from Eat Well for Less NZ (4.0%) than Hawai’i had from MasterChef Australia (3.6%) and NCIS from The Block NZ: Redemption (3.0%).
At 9.30, NCIS: LA doubled the 25-54 viewership of SEAL Team, averaging 1.2%, while TVNZ 1’s Coronation Street finished second with 0.9%.
In the 18-49 demo, MasterChef Australia won the 7.30 hour and Coronation Street level-pegged with NCIS: LA.
At 7.00, TVNZ 1’s Seven Sharp had one of its strongest nights in weeks, drawing twice as many key demo viewers as Three’s The Project, which narrowly topped TVNZ 2’s Shortland Street.
Prime’s 8.30 movie Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason averaged 0.7% of 25-54s, in another depressing reminder of how even the best drama series on TV — Succession, which screened in the slot before being released to late-night — is no match for bargain-bin crowdpleasers.
Duke’s Full Metal Jacket averaged 0.8% of 25-54s and 0.7% of the channel’s 18-49 target audience while Eden’s How to Save a Grand in 24 Hours averaged 0.1%/0.0% and Whakaata Māori’s Hunting Aotearoa 0.4%/0.3%.
TVNZ 1 commanded the night’s biggest core demo shares and Three edged out TVNZ 2 for second place.
Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.

Haven’t seen NCIS in years. Is it still a soft, murky mess to look at?
Yes it is. And NCIS Hawaii isn’t much better, it’s brighter but not oversaturated like the CSI Miami days.
