HD Ratings: New House Doesn’t Rule

TV3’s new season of House Rules opened to shockingly low ratings on Monday, averaging only 2.3% of the network’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds.

Traditionally reality shows like House Rules start slowly as more viewers wake up to their return, and TV3 will be banking on viewership to build after a few more nights on air and online catch-ups.

Even so, it would not have been expecting a 25-54 rating this low against TV2’s Australian Survivor (6.5%) and TV One’s Border Patrol (8.2%) and Code: 1 (6.2%).

It anchored a lousy night for the network, with poor ratings for Newshub Live at 6pm, Story and the re-run of This Means War.

TV2 dominated the core commercial demos with Shortland Street, Australian Survivor and Wentworth but TV One managed to win the night with 25-54s.

Below are the primetime ratings tables for Monday in the 25-54, 18-49 and 5+ contests (the first number under the programme’s title is the rating average and the second number the channel share):

I think TV3 should give reality shows a rest and put on brand new shows which will appeal to everyone 🙂

  2. Trevor, you have a new job at MediaWorks 🙂

  3. YAY, thanks Paul when do I start?… I would give them a big shake-up and would also make Newshub gets more HD cameras 🙂

  4. You’re spot-on re the HD cameras, Trevor. The shocking field footage makes a mockery of Newshub being in HD. But don’t hold your breath for an improvement — apparently there was a huge battle with management just to upgrade the studio presentation to HD, so new cameras won’t be a priority.

  5. I wonder why management was against upgrading to HD? They must surely see by now though it’s a must to have everything in HD, the studio looks amazing in HD 🙂

  6. Couldn’t agree more, Trevor, but from a bean counter’s perspective there was never going to be a ratings pay-off to justify the cost of the upgrade.
