HD Ratings: New-Look Monday a Bad Look for 3
TV3’s network movie premiere of Chronicle crashed and burned on Monday.
It averaged only 3.6% – 5.3% of the major demographics and largely finished third across the board.
Even more surprising was the weak return of 2012’s top-rating The GC.
It averaged 5.4% – 6.2% on the back of Road Cops’ 5.8% – 7.7%.
These shows were no match for TV2’s comedies — The Middle (9.5% – 13.1%), Trophy Wife (8.3% – 12.2%) — or TV One’s MasterChef NZ (6.5% – 9.5%).
The latter’s lead-out, Person of Interest, also had a strong night, posting 3.2% – 8.6% against Super Fun Night (8.3% – 11.5%) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (5.1% – 7.8%).
Indicative of Brooklyn’s weakness was Person out-rating it among adults 18-49 and 25-54, and nearly matching it with HHS.
However, TV One’s 9.30 drama The Following continues to flounder, with only 0.9% – 2.7% — which even Chronicle managed to top — while The Walking Dead averaged 4.3% – 5.7%.
In its new 10.30 slot, Revolution’s season premiere could rev up only 1.4% – 2.5%.
The night’s most popular attraction was Shortland Street, with 15.4% – 21.2%.
The peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:
- Adults 18-49: TV One, 6.7 rating/22.8 share; TV2, 8.7 rating/29.7 share; TV3, 4.9 rating/16.7 share
- Adults 18-39: TV One, 5.0 rating/19.2 share; TV2, 8.3 rating/32.4 share; TV3, 4.9 rating/19.0 share
- Adults 25-54: TV One, 8.1 rating/25.0 share; TV2, 8.1 rating/25.0 share; TV3, 6.0 rating/18.6 share
- HHS: TV One, 7.3 rating/20.5 share; TV2, 11.5 rating/32.3 share; TV3, 7.1 rating/19.9 share.

I’m surprised Chronicle did so poorly, they probably made a mistake with the ratings again 🙂
People are finally discovering good taste? Chronicle was a horrid movie full of dumb story, predictability and poor acting.
Actually, Chronicle was a very good movie, thx 1138. It grossed 10 times its budget and it looks as if a sequel will be filmed in the near future. You seem to be very critical of nearly every TV show or movie that is discussed on this forum. You are obviously an extremely hard person to please.
Call it discerning 😉
or …
I’m an old fart who has seen most of it before… 🙂
The fact it grossed 10x its budget should be a warning sign.
Young gifted talent makes surprise hit, gets big budget for next project and blows it: eg. Carl Erik Risch, Duncan Jones, Neill Blomkamp.
Probably a bit of both. As with everyone who has an opinion, sometimes majority of people will disagree with you and other times most people will agree with you. There is never any right or wrong opinion though, it’s down to each person’s individual perception.
