HD Ratings: Not Quite a Chip Off the Old Block
Monday’s premiere of TV3’s latest Block spin-off, Glasshouse, didn’t shatter the competition like the NZ edition it replaced.
It averaged only 4.4% – 5.8% of the major demographics and barely won the 7.30 slot among 18-39 year-olds.
TV2’s The Amazing Race dominated the hour, with 5.0% – 7.3% and with weaker competition on TV One and TV3, the second back-to-back episode rated much higher (4.2% – 7.8%) than the previous week’s (2.4% – 4.0%).
But lead-out The Walking Dead still struggled, rating only 3.9% – 6.6% — which was down sharply on its season highs.
That was good enough to win the 9.30 hour in three of the key demos but TV One’s Castle (2.5% – 6.3%) won the 25-54 contest off the back of Criminal Minds’ 3.9% – 7.9%.
TV3’s re-run of Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer was all washed up on 3.8% – 5.0%.
In the battle of the HD ‘toons on Sunday, TV3’s Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (5.1% – 6.1%) was more popular than TV2’s network premiere of Frankenweenie (3.0% – 6.4%).
But TV One’s Our Big Blue Backyard (5.6% – 8.6%) largely beat both ahead of its HD drama Happy Valley (2.8% – 5.9%) winning the hour with the network’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds.
Otherwise, TV2’s Gotham dominated at 8.30 (4.4% – 7.3%) once Ice Age ended ahead of TV3’s ratings nightmare The Night Shift (1.8% – 3.4%).
The hospital drama is hindering Hawaii Five-O’s prospects, which sunk to 1.3% – 2.5%, helping TV2’s Agents of SHIELD to rebuild momentum with 5.0% – 7.4%.
TV One’s 9.30 drama, Secrets & Lies, averaged only 1.2% – 3.8%.
TV2’s The Voice and movies dominated Saturday while TV3’s Jono and Ben special, The Graham Norton Show and 7 Days won all four key demos on Friday.
TV2’s dynamic duo of The Flash and Arrow conquered all on Thursday, although CSI was competitive in the 18-39 and 25-54 demos.
And on Wednesday, TV2 dwarfed its rivals with its HD comedies while TV One’s Intrepid NZ limped to the end of its run (2.2% – 3.7%) ahead of Dave Dobbyn’s Pike River tribute, Dreams Lie Deeper (1.6% – 2.7%), which out-rated TV3’s Gang Related but was only half as popular as TV2’s Kitchen Nightmares.
