HD Ratings: Not Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation
Disastrous ratings for TVNZ 2’s premiere of Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation has prompted the network to dump the Australian quiz show for Wednesday night movies in the short term.
It’s part of a makeover that will also see the low-rating sitcoms American Housewife and Life in Pieces pulled and re-runs of The Big Bang Theory shifted from 8.30 to 8.00 ahead of the 12th and final season’s debut.
From September 19, TVNZ 2 will use re-runs of the Hangover movies to try to boost its Wednesday night ratings after weeks of decline.
It’s also resorting to movies to plug other holes: on Monday nights until Project Runway’s NZ launch — Paul Blart: Mall Cop will screen (in SD) on September 17 at 7.30 and its sequel the following week — and Fridays, starting with a 9.00 re-run of Limitless on September 21.
Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation averaged only 1.0% of TVNZ 2’s target audience, 18-49 year-olds, 0.9% of 25-54 and 1.1% of 18-39.
That allowed Coronation Street to bounce back after a period of low ratings (and lame storylines) to win the 9.30 hour with averages of 2.6% (25-54), 2.1% (18-49) and 1.2% (18-30).
The soap also benefitted from lead-in Code Black averaging 3.7% of 25-54 to win the 8.30 hour in this demo opposite TBBT (3.5%) and Life in Pieces (1.3%).
Three’s The Block NZ won the 7.30 hour in all the core commercial demos while NCIS: Los Angeles won the 8.30 hour in the 18-49 and 18-39 demos and was competitive in the 25-54 race.
TVNZ 1 won the night in the 25-54 and 18-49 stakes and was surprisingly competitive among 18-39s, losing narrowly to TVNZ 2.

Yuck. Across the board those ratings are awful. Audience declines this year = ad revenue tanking next year.
Not surprised about Generation, it was the wrong fit for TVNZ 2, more suited to TVNZ 1 or Duke. I don’t understand the rationale for it in the first place.
It was a bizarre one, wasn’t it Leo? None of the previous seasons had aired here. If they’re after an Aussie comedy show, TVNZ 2/Three would be better off trying to pick up Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention? which regularly features Kiwi comedians as part of the panel/contestants. Could go quite well in a 9:30 slot Tues/Wed (airs on Ten on a Monday).
Then why not get something way more informative and entertaining, like live music-type comedy, and it will be way better than having Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation.
