HD Ratings: Obama Wins Popular Vote But Not Where It Counts
TV1’s David Attenborough Meets President Obama special was the most watched programme in its time slot on Monday but finished third in the commercial demographics.
Screening here a day after the BBC, it averaged 7.2% of the country but only 2.5% – 6.0% of the key demos.
More popular in these demos was TV2’s My Kitchen Rules (8.4% – 11.4%), although it slipped sharply on the previous week (13.0% – 18.9%), and TV3’s improving Married at First Sight (4.4% – 7.1%).
TV2 launched dating show Take Me Out, which will air Fridays, off the back of MKR, where it averaged 5.0% – 6.2% to beat TV1’s Forever (1.6% – 4.5%) and, in the 18-39 and 25-54 demos, TV3’s Reality Trip (2.6% – 5.4%).
TV3’s Monday night reality line-up is gaining momentum despite the weakness of The Embassy (1.1% – 2.5%), which continues to drag down the Dancing With the Stars results show (2.9%- 5.1%).
However, the latter also is facing tougher competition from TV1’s return of The Force, which averaged 6.3% – 9.5% off the back of Border Security’s 6.1% – 9.7%.
Like MKR, TV2’s Shortland Street hour (10.4% – 15.0%) was well down on the previous Monday’s (12.9% – 20.5%).
Even so, TV2 still easily won the night in three of the four key demos and only lost narrowly to TV1 in the 25-54 contest:

Just checked the latest MediaWorks rate card and it seems their strategy is to bulk up TV3 and sacrifice FOUR with another key title Ninja Warrior migrating to 3. Looks like we are heading to the ghastly days of TV4 of the late ’90s and early 2000s. They might as well close FOUR down with its wall to wall movies now dominating its primetime schedule. Does MediaWorks even have a plan let alone care about FOUR’s future?
