HD Ratings: Resurrection Unlikely for Agent Anna

Don’t expect a Nothing Trivial-style resurrection for Agent Anna, which ended its second season with a cliffhanger and not-so-thrilling ratings.

Like the Auckland housing market, the heat has gone out of the real estate agent comedy.

This season has rated lower than the first and is unlikely to be renewed or have any loose ends tied up in a telemovie finale, as happened this week with Nothing Trivial.

Thursday’s episode averaged only 2.3% – 3.9% of the key demographics to finish third after TV2’s Resurrection (6.5% – 9.5%) and the last half-hour of TV3’s markedly improving The X Factor Australia (6.5% – 11.1%).

Agent Anna was hit hard this year by TV2’s Resurrection, which initially rated gangbusters but in the last two weeks has retreated to single-digit ratings.

Indeed, Thursday’s episode was the most vulnerable yet, for the first time losing up to two of its quarter hours in all the key demos to X Factor.

Meanwhile, TV3 today announced that extended Friday editions of X Factor would pre-empt The Michael McIntyre Chat Show on August 15 and 22.

As for the rest of Thursday’s HD ratings, Restoration Man averaged 3.6% – 5.1% (which was down sharply on the previous week), Shortland Street 13.8% – 18.9%, Code: 1 11.2% – 13.1% and CSI 3.2% – 6.6%, which was impressive for a re-run.

Thursday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • A18-49: TV One, 5.1 rating/19.0 share; TV2, 8.7 rating/32.4 share; TV3, 5.0 rating/18.8 share
  • A18-39: TV One, 4.4 rating/16.3 share; TV2, 9.1 rating/34.0 share; TV3, 5.1 rating/19.2 share
  • A25-54: TV One, 6.5 rating/21.8 share; TV2, 8.8 rating/29.6 share; TV3, 6.2 rating/20.9 share
  • HHS/k: TV One, 5.7 rating/17.1 share; TV2, 11.1 rating/33.5 share; TV3, 7.5 rating/22.7 share.

The X Factor’s appeal might also hinder Upper Middle Bogan’s chances of finding an audience when it launches next week. Glad TV3’s doubling up on X Factor so we can jump into the live shows which start in Australia on Sunday. I wonder if TV3 will do a live simulcast of the live shows 8.30 Sundays but this may become problematic when daylight savings ends.
