HD Ratings: Stand Up for Christchurch Not a Standout

TVNZ 2’s hastily scheduled Stand Up for Christchurch special improved the network’s Wednesday night ratings but was no match for Three’s mosque shootings concert, You Are Us, which aired the previous week.

Stand Up averaged 3.1% of the network’s target audience, 18-49 year-olds, compared to 2.8% for Whiskey Cavalier on April 10.

But it was well down on You Are Us’ 4.8% — the popularity of which decimated last Wednesday’s Whiskey Cavalier (1.5%).

In the 25-54 demographics, Stand Up averaged 3.8% and You Are Us, 5.9%.

Three’s special was more popular in all the core commercial demos whereas Stand Up largely trailed Three’s repeat of Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief.

Shifting The Big Bang Theory to 7.30 to accommodate Stand Up improved its ratings in all the key demos except 18-49.

And Stand Up lead-out Station 19 was up sharply, with an 18-49 average of 2.0% vs 0.9% for its season premiere against You Are Us; its 25-54 average improved from 1.3% to 2.2%.

TVNZ 1’s Secrets of the Royal Babies averaged 3.1% of 25-54s off the back of Location Location Location’s 4.5%.

The demo average was the same as the previous week’s penultimate episode of The Bad Seed (which releases Thursday on DVD).

The local thriller was stripped across five nights of TVNZ 1’s schedule, opening with 4.2% of 25-54s on April 14 (compared to 2.6% for Les Miserables the following Sunday) and closing with 2.5% on April 18 (compared to 4.4% for the network’s April 25 repeat of Elton John: The Nation’s Favourite Song).

But the biggest Anzac Day crowdpleaser was TVNZ 2’s double-billing of the first two Crocodile Dundee movies.

They trounced the competition across the board, with the original scoring amazing averages of 6.1% – 9.6% in the 18-49, 25-54 and household shopper demos. Crikey!
