HD Ratings: Talent Deathly for Potter and Popper

NZ’s Got Talent scored a big win on Sunday against HD movies Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I and Mr Popper’s Penguins.

But despite Talent averaging 8.4% – 16.8% of the key demographics, lead-out A Place to Call Home (above) couldn’t capitalise on its popularity.

The Australian drama’s premiere looked stunning in HD but averaged only 2.8% – 8.0%.

Predictably, it held least appeal for adults 18-39 and 18-49 but should have rated higher with adults 25-54 (6.4%) and household shoppers.

It also sharply shed 25-54 viewers over the hour, opening with 7.9% of TV One’s target audience and finishing with 5.4%.

There was a similar decline among HHS, from 9.8% – 7.6%

Deathly Hallows averaged 6.0% – 7.1%, and was most popular with adults 25-54, while the network premiere of Mr Popper’s Penguins drew only 4.5% – 5.6%.

There was better news for TV3 on Friday, when it won peak share for the night with The X Factor USA (7.6% – 9.6%) and the return of local crowdpleasers 7Days (6.3% – 8.4%) and Jono and Ben at Ten (4.4% – 6.1%).

While TV2 owned Saturday night with its SD movies, the network’s 7pm flagship, Duck Dynasty, rated a disastrous 1.6% – 3.9% opposite Country Calendar’s 4.8% – 7.4% and Destroyed in Seconds’ 2.8% – 4.0%.

TV One’s MasterChef Australia finale rated higher — 4.0% – 5.7% — than the series it pre-empted, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, but TV3’s HD crime drama, Blue Bloods, averaged a robust 2.1% – 4.3%.

I was impressed by the ratings for Touch despite it being on so late, perhaps TV3 should rethink it’s time slot 🙂

  2. Actually, Trevor, the ratings weren’t that flash. A re-run of The Walking Dead beat Touch in the key demos and even its biggest viewership, household shoppers, soon lost interest: it opened with 4.0% of this demo and ended with just 0.7%. Even with 5+, it averaged only 1.1%. Clearly, a double-episode commitment post-11pm Sunday is too big for most viewers to make but TV3 programmers won’t be losing sleep over Touch’s scheduling.

  3. I found myself staying for A Place to Call Home even though I am not a fan of dramas depicting past decades but I actually enjoyed it and will continue to tune in.
