HD Ratings: The Block Back on Top

After see-sawing last week in the ratings with My Kitchen Rules NZ, The Block NZ hammered the competition on Tuesday by winning the 7.30 hour.

It averaged 9.5% – 12.0% of the major demographics but lost to MKRNZ in the all viewers aged 5+ race: 7.4% vs 10.0%.

In the other key demos, MKRNZ averaged 5.8% – 8.7%, ahead of TV2’s Consentino: The Magic, The Mystery, The Madness (6.6% – 10.0%).

But despite its lead-in from The Block NZ, TV3’s HD movie premiere of Dinner With Schmucks bombed, with only 4.1% – 4.7% of the key demos.

TV One’s The Mentalist averaged 4.6% – 6.9% but largely was out-rated by lead-out Nigel Latta (5.5% – 7.7%), which won the 9.30 hour.

TV2’s The Amazing Race: Australia v NZ was competitive at 8.30, with 6.1% – 8.1%.

Week-on-week, TV One and TV3 mostly improved at the expense of TV2.

Tuesday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:

  • A18-49: TV One, 7.3 rating/22.9share; TV2, 7.2 rating/22.6 share; TV3, 7.1 rating/22.4 share

On Monday, TV2’s Ground Floor got off to a flying start off the back of Shortland Street (16.6% – 21.5%).

The new comedy averaged a remarkably consistent 10.0% – 10.7% of the key demos – but couldn’t match the appeal of the previous week’s Shortland Street hour.

That led to lead-out Cougar Town rating a season low of 8.9% – 10.2%.

But the weaker 7.30 competition helped Purina Pound Pups to Dog Stars to improve on its premiere (3.0% – 6.2%), with 7.2% – 9.3%, ahead of Criminal Minds (4.7% – 9.8%) and Castle (1.7% – 4.5%).

Criminal Minds was competitive with TV2’s Wentworth (6.7% – 9.3%) in the 25-54 stakes but lost to it in the other key demos.

Wentworth lead-out Grey’s Anatomy averaged 3.6% – 6.0% to dominate the 9.30 hour but lost to the second half of TV3’s movie Bride Wars (4.2% – 5.9%) in the 18-39 demo.
