HD Ratings: The Block Comes Up Short on Sunday
Shortland Street made short work of The Block NZ on Sunday but Three still won the night in all the core commercial demographics.
TVNZ 2’s first Sunday night broadcast of the weekday soap out-rated The Block in all the key demos except household shoppers with kids.
It averaged 9.6% of 25-54, 7.4% of 18-49, 6.8% of 18-39 and 10.6% of HHS/k.
In its first hour, The Block averaged 8.0% of 25-54, 5.9% of 18-49, 4.5% of 18-39 and 10.7% of HHS/k.
For The Block’s 90-minute broadcast, these respective demos averaged 8.6%, 6.4%, 5.0% and 11.0%.
Viewers switched over to the last half-hour of The Block and stayed with Three’s movie, Furious 6, which left TVNZ 2’s Red Riding Hood in the dust (except among HHS/k).
Another local production to rate highly on Sunday was Prime’s Unchartered With Sam Neill, which averaged 2.6% of the channel’s 25-54 demo compared to 3.7% for TVNZ 1’s time-slot rival, The Curious Mind.
Unchartered also had a relatively strong 25-54 lead-in from The Truth About Carbs (2.2%).
Meanwhile, MediaWorks reports The Block NZ is replacing its on-air success online.
It’s been the most streamed programme on ThreeNow since its launch nine weeks ago. Video-on-demand streams are up 38% year-on-year and live streams are up 69% over the same period.
Three’s Westside also has set a performance record on ThreeNow, with VOD streams up 15% year-on-year and live streams up 66% (Westside’s fourth-season finale airs tonight).
And in Sky Sports’ showdown on Saturday, between the All Blacks and the Warriors in their respective matches, the former easily won, with 8.4% of 25-54 vs 3.6%.
The gap was consistent across the other core demos, too.
