HD Ratings: The Block NZ Towers Over Kitchen NZ
TV3 was quick to hammer home the success of The Block NZ’s season three premiere on Tuesday, issuing a press release this morning that pointed out it drew a much bigger 25-54 audience than TV One’s My Kitchen Rules NZ.
The 25-54 demographic is the one both networks target.
The Block NZ averaged 201,900 of these viewers and MKRNZ, 136,500.
TV3 reports #TheBlockNZ also trended number one in NZ on Twitter during the episode, and was still the #1 trend in New Zealand this morning.
Within three-and-a-half hours of its broadcast, there had been more than 3,000 views of the episode on TV3’s video on-demand service, 3NOW.
The Block NZ not only won the 25-54 race but also topped the competition in the 18-39 and 18-49 key demos, and was competitive among household shoppers with kids.
It averaged 11.4% – 13.1% of these viewers but narrowly lost to MKRNZ among all viewers aged 5+: 7.8% versus 8.2%
TV2’s 7.30 competition, the return of Consentino: The Magic, the Mystery, the Madness, averaged a competitive 8.6% – 13.6% of the key demos to beat MKRNZ across the board and The Block NZ among HHS/k.
TV3’s network premiere of The Change-Up averaged a competitive 4.9% – 5.8% against TV One’s fading The Mentalist (3.8% – 5.8%) and Nigel Latta (3.9% – 7.0%) but TV2’s The Amazing Race: Australia v NZ was tops with 8.4% – 9.1%.
As a result, week-on-week TV3’s primetime ratings and shares improved dramatically while TVNZ’s declined but TV2 still won each of the key demos overall.
Tuesday’s peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:
- A18-49: TV One, 6.0 rating/19.8 share; TV2, 8.9 rating/29.5 share; TV3, 6.6 rating/21.9 share
- A18-39: TV One, 5.1 rating/17.0 share; TV2, 9.1 rating/30.5 share; TV3, 7.6 rating/25.4 share
- A25-54: TV One, 7.1 rating/21.9 share; TV2, 8.7 rating/26.7 share; TV3, 7.2 rating/22.2 share
- HHS/k: TV One, 8.6 rating/23.3 share; TV2, 11.5 rating/30.9 share; TV3, 9.3 rating/25.0 share.
