HD Ratings: The Flash Does Its Dash

TV2 is pulling The Flash from primetime and replacing next week’s scheduled episode with The Day I Almost Died.

It follows Wednesday’s crossover episode with Arrow averaging only 2.4% – 4.7% of the core commercial demographics and largely finishing third at 9.30.

Fans can continue to see The Flash express from the US at TVNZ OnDemand, where the next episode will premiere 6pm on December 9.

But a publicist say the series didn’t prove as popular on air as hoped. It will continue to screen on TV2 but at a later date — and presumably in a post-10.30 slot.

The Flash’s weakness was demonstrated last week when it took a break in the US and TV2 replaced it with The Day I Almost Died, which averaged a much higher 5.5% – 6.5%.

Arrow, however, will continue to be a primetime mainstay, even though Thursday’s episode (2.9% – 6.4%) finished third in its slot despite a higher lead-in from The Undateables (10.1% – 12.8%).

That was off the back of TV2’s Highway Patrol special (10.8% – 14.6%) and against TV1’s 800 Words (3.6% – 6.8%) and TV3’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine (4.8% – 5.4%).

TV1’s MasterChef Australia and TV3’s X Factor UK see-sawed on Thursday whereas on Wednesday The Block NZ: Villa Wars demolished the Aussie cooking show and TV2’s sitcoms.

The Block also notched up a clean sweep across the core demos on Tuesday and helped lead-out NCIS to average 6.1% – 8.8% for its season premiere against tough competition from TV2’s The World’s Fattest Man (6.6% – 10.2%).

NCIS won the 18-49 and 25-54 demos and Fattest Man the 18-39 and household shopper demos.

Empire won the 9.30 hour, with 3.7% – 6.7%, opposite TV1’s Battle Creek (1.7% – 2.9%) and TV3’s SVU (1.8% – 4.3%).
