HD Ratings: Three Tops Tuesday

Reality continues to rule for Three on Tuesday with House Rules, Lost & Found and Road Cops helping the network to win the night in three of the four core commercial demographics and barely losing the fourth.

This was despite the burgeoning appeal of TVNZ 2’s Family Food Fight and Instant Hotel starting to bite into its viewership.

The former averaged 4.4% of the 25-54 demo and 3.3% of 18-49 compared to respective averages of 5.3% and 3.5% for House Rules.

Instant Hotel posted a 25-54 average of 4.4% vs Lost & Found’s 3.9% and an 18-49 average of 3.3% vs 3.6% — but even in the 25-54 race, L&F won two quarter-hour segments and built its audience from 3.8% to 4.8%.

In both demos, lead-out Road Cops demolished 2’s What Really Happens in Bali.

TVNZ 1 trailed third in every hour post-7.30, with 25-54 averages of 4.2% for The Celebrity Chase, 2.1% for the first hour of National Treasure, 1.3% for the second and 0.7% for 1 News Tonight; the trend was the same in the 18-49 stakes.

The network fared better at 6.00, with 1 News scoring a 25-54 average of 8.1% compared to Newshub Live’s 4.5% (although the gap was much narrower in the other key demos).

But at 7.00, 1’s The Extreme Cake Makers continued its decline against Three’s The Project, losing to the panel show in all but the 18-49 demo, with each roughly drawing a third of Shortland Street’s viewership.

By the end of the night, Three had claimed the biggest 25-54, 18-49 and 18-39 shares but was one-tenth of a point behind TVNZ 2 in the race for household shoppers with kids.
