HD Ratings: Toddlers Stand Tall

Toddlers Behaving (Very) Badly behaved very well in the core commercial demographics for TVNZ 2 on Tuesday.

The premiere of the next-gen Supernanny series averaged 3.1% of 25-54 year-olds and 2.3% of 18-49s — a big gain on the previous week’s 2.2% / 1.2% for the final of Amazing Grace.

It seesawed with Three’s Emergency, which ultimately won the 8.30 hour with 3.5% / 2.7% averages.

But Toddlers hammered the return of TVNZ 1’s Paramedics, which rated a shockingly low 1.8% / 1.4% on the back of 4.0% / 3.1% for lead-in Eat Well for Less?.

TVNZ 1’s shedding of viewers continued with sub-par ratings for Coronation Street at 9.30.

The soap’s first Tuesday night broadcast in two weeks, after its temporary relocation to TVNZ 2 during the Olympics, averaged just 0.5% of the key demos vs 1.5% / 1.3% for Three’s NCIS: Los Angeles and 0.7% / 0.5% for TVNZ 2’s Grey’s Anatomy.

But TVNZ 2 had a big win with MasterChef Australia at 7.30. It averaged 4.9% / 3.4% while Three’s The Block NZ unusually finished third for the hour, with 3.9% / 3.0%.

Earlier, TVNZ 1’s Seven Sharp easily led TVNZ 2’s Shortland Street and Three’s The Project.

Prime’s drama double-bill of the S2 premiere of The Spanish Princess and the free-to-air debut of SoHo’s Succession largely went unnoticed: the former averaged 0.4% / 0.2% and the latter 0.1% of each core demo.

Both were out-rated by their lead-in, a re-run of Making NZ (1.2% / 0.7%).

TVNZ 1 won the night with the biggest demo shares while Three narrowly lost to TVNZ 2.

Relocating Coronation Street to TVNZ 2 would definitely end its run on TVNZ by lowering ratings. What do you think?
