HD Ratings: Top Gear Dude Goes the Distance

A Top Gear star’s new series couldn’t work miracles and match the popularity of The Block: All Stars when TV3 launched it on Wednesday.

But Richard Hammond’s Miracles of Nature rated well enough to beat TV One’s The Inspectors and The Force in all the key demographics except household shoppers.

It averaged 4.2% – 5.6% of the demos that matter most to the network and built its audience over the hour.

But it couldn’t compete with TV2’s HD comedies Mom (9.3% – 12.7%), which was down sharply on last week’s premiere among HHS but steady in other demos, and Two and a Half Men (8.8% – 11.6%).

Men also slipped with HHS but was up among adults 25-54.

The night’s biggest crowdpleaser was The Big Bang Theory (11.8% – 16.1%), which even out-rated Shortland Street (11.3% – 15.5%), except among adults 18-39.

Its 9.00 stablemate, 2 Broke Girls, also continues to rate strongly in its third season, with 9.7% – 12.0%.

The big loser at 8.30 continues to be TV One’s Rake (2.3% – 6.8%), which was beaten by TV3’s last-minute re-run of Mind the Gap (it pre-empted Hercules the Bear because of delivery issues).

Hostages at 9.30 also isn’t holding enough viewers captive (1.0% – 4.2%) opposite Once Upon a Time (5.7% – 6.4%) and Sons of Anarchy (2.7% – 5.2%), which hit a season low.

The peak-hour HD channel ratings and shares were:
