HD Ratings: Treasured Celebrities Rescue TVNZ 2

Only Celebrity Treasure Island stopped TVNZ 1 from scoring a clean sweep of Monday night in the core commercial demographics.

TVNZ 2’s highest-rating show of the night averaged 6.0% of 25-54 year-olds and 5.0% of 18-49s to top TVNZ 1’s Fair Go (6.1% / 4.7%) and Border Patrol (5.2% / 4.1%), and Three’s Lego Masters Australia (4.0% / 3.5%).

But from 8.30-10.30 TVNZ 1’s Surviving 9/11 was unbeatable, averaging 3.2% / 2.5% vs 2.1% / 1.8% for TVNZ 2’s Real Filthy Rich Asians special and 1.8% / 1.5% for Three’s struggling Kiwi drama Head High.

But the latter did wallop TVNZ 2 comedy Girl5eva, which averaged an untenable 0.8% / 0.5% ahead of The Walking Dead’s 1.0% / 0.9%.

Three’s new 5.00 lead-in to Newshub Live, Aussie Gold Hunters, improved its key demo averages (2.2% / 1.6%). While these were higher than those of TVNZ 2’s comedies, they were still dwarfed by The Chase’s on TVNZ 1.

1 News at Six had a commanding lead over Newshub Live in the 25-54 demo but the 18-49 race was tighter, as was the case with Seven Sharp vs The Project.

TVNZ won the night with 32+ shares of the key demos while Three led TVNZ 2 by a couple of points.

Note: These overnight ratings exclude viewership of the networks’ +1 SD channels.
