HD Ratings: TV3 Rates Through the Roof

TV3 has got its house in order on Sunday nights by boldly double-billing NZ versions of The Block and Grand Designs.

Both won their slots in all of the key commercial demographics and, as a result, helped TV3 to win the night in each.

The Block NZ: Villa Wars averaged 7.9% – 11.6% and Grand Designs NZ 7.2% – 12.9%.

The latter matched or improved on its lead-out in every core demo except 18-39.

Only at 9.30 did TV3 stumble, when Satisfaction finished third across the four main demos.

TV2’s network movie premiere of The Guilt Trip bombed, with only 3.5% – 4.8% off the back of Brave’s 4.2% – 11.0% (the Pixar movie averaged only 4.2% – 4.4% in the 18-39, 18-49 and 25-54 stakes).

Thanks to having top-rating One News as a lead-in, TV1’s line-up finished second in the older age demos, with Sunday averaging 4.3% – 7.6%, Topp Country 3.8% – 7.6%, Winter 1.3% – 5.8% and Ordinary Lies 0.7% – 4.7%.

TV3 won the night with exceptionally high channel shares for the network:

Its Sunday success followed a similarly impressive feat on Friday, when its light-ent line-up won in the 18-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

The return of Jono and Ben at 7.30 averaged 5.4% – 6.6%, The Graham Norton Show 4.8% – 7.6% and 7 Days 2.8% – 6.3%.

TV2’s Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris averaged only 3.5% – 4.6% off the back of Dynamo: Magician Impossible’s 5.1% – 9.2% and ahead of Ru Paul’s Drag Race’s 1.6% – 3.9%.

The weakness of TV2’s line-up helped TV’1’s Coronation Street to beat it in the 25-54 and household shoppers with kids demos while TV1’s only HD hour of the night, Kiwi Living, finished third at 7.30 with 2.8% – 4.9%.

As a result, TV3 won the night in the 18-39 and 18-49 race while TV1 topped the 25-54 and HHS/k demos.

On Saturday, TV2’s movies won the night in three of the core demos.
