HD Ratings: TV3 Sinks Claws Into TVNZ

The combination of The Block NZ and X-Men Origins: Wolverine helped TV3 to slaughter the competition on Monday night.

The X-Men re-run averaged 9.1% – 12.2% of the major demographics on the back of The Block NZ’s 11.4% – 17.6%.

TV2’s 8.30 drama Grey’s Anatomy averaged 6.8% – 11.1% and its lead-out, Private Practice, only 3.6% – 6.9%.

Although barely a couple of points separated Wolverine and Grey’s among household shoppers, the gap was wider in the other key demos.

TV2’s HD comedies The Middle (9.4% – 15.7%) and Suburgatory (6.9% – 10.7%) stumbled against The Block NZ – as did TV One’s Dog Squad (4.6% – 10.1%) and Life Flight (5.2% – 9.4%).

TV One’s flagship HD drama Person of Interest averaged 5.2% – 9.7% and its lead-out, Castle, 2.3% – 4.2%.

Rounding out the night’s first-run HD dramas were TV2’s Monday Mornings (2.8% – 4.6%) and Orange is the New Black (1.0% – 1.9%).

I guess this is karma after TV3 losing Home and Away and having their early year line-up destroyed by My Kitchen Rules. I wonder if TVNZ will try and outbid TV3 for House Rules next year to counter The Block NZ’s success.
