HD Ratings: Viewers Do a Runner from Dine NZ

TV3 will be rethinking its 5.30 strategy for Come Dine With Me NZ, with re-runs of the season that replaced Campbell Live tanking ahead of 3 News.

Monday’s repeat averaged only 0.7% – 1.3% of the core commercial demographics, which contributed to 3 News averaging only 3.2% – 4.3%.

It was a similar pattern last week, with Dine NZ averaging less than 1% of the key age demos.

TV3 originally commissioned Dine NZ for 5.30 weeknights but this appetiser doesn’t bode well for its prospects.

A much more popular format for the network has been The Block NZ: Villa Wars, which averaged 7.8% – 8.2% on Monday to win the 7.30 hour in the 18-39 and 18-49 stakes.

This followed the DIY hit winning all four key demos on Sunday, with an 8.6% – 10.7% average.

That left TV2’s Supergirl (5.3% – 6.9%) and TV1’s Life Story (2.5% – 6.8%) to seesaw in the 25-54 and household shoppers demos, although the former flew higher with 18-39s and 18-49s.

Grand Designs NZ has proved to be another format winner for TV3, with Sunday’s episode winning the 8.30 hour (5.6% – 9.3%).

Switching My Kitchen Rules NZ from TV1 to TV2 hasn’t paid off for TVNZ, with the cooking show rating much lower than Aussie original.

Monday’s episode averaged 4.5% – 8.3% to beat The Block only in the HHS demo while finishing third behind TV1’s reality half-hours in the others.

But TV2 dominated from 8.30, with the season final of Wentworth (8.1% – 13.8%) and The Walking Dead (5.4% – 10.9%) proving unbeatable.

TV3’s Heroes (2.5% – 2.8%) continues to struggle while Criminal Minds (4.6% – 7.1%) was more competitive.

TV2’s HD movies won their Saturday night slots and TV3’s light-ent hits dominated the key demos on Friday.

TV1’s premiere of 800 Words (3.7% – 9.5%) on Thursday won the 8.30 hour in the HHS demo but finished behind TV2’s The Undateables (8.1% – 9.2%) in the rest.

It’s sad to see Heroes Reborn rating poorly as it’s actually really good especially the last two episodes 🙂
