HD Ratings: Viewers Flock to Flicks But Not Frockers

HD re-runs of Slumdog Millionaire and Sex and the City 2 largely won their slots during the week while the network premieres of The Back-Up Plan and Conan the Barbarian were competitive.

TV3’s Sex and the City 2 averaged 3.6% – 5.6% of the major demographics – adults 18-39, 18-49, 25-54, household shoppers with kids – on Thursday, crushing TV3’s repeat of Underbelly: Infiltration (3.4% – 3.9%).

But on Tuesday TV3’s Slumdog Millionaire had the edge, with 4.6% – 6.4%, opposite Conan’s 4.9% – 6.2% and TV One’s The Man Who Ate Himself to Death (5.2% – 7.1%).

Slumdog was given a head start by The Block All Stars averaging a whopping 8.9% – 10.2%, which was its highest viewership during the week.

It also dominated the 7.30 hour on other nights while half-an-hour earlier re-runs of Border Patrol and The Big Bang Theory kept Bondi Vet at bay.

TV One’s Wednesday premiere of Meet the Frockers failed to stitch up the 8.00 slot, averaging only 3.0% – 4.5% ahead of The Reader’s dismal 2.1% – 2.7%.

They were thrashed by TV2’s SD repeat of The Game Plan (8.1% – 11.2%) while TV3’s Back Up Plan, which began midway through TV2’s, averaged 5.8% – 8.5%.

It couldn’t beat the other Plan but was twice as popular as TV2’s The Year That Was.

TV2’s HD premiere of another movie, You Again, dominated 8.30 Monday, with 7.5% – 9.9%, on the back of The Middle (6.9% – 11.3%) and Hot in Cleveland (5.6% – 9.2%).
