HD Ratings: Weed Lights Up Wednesday
The final of Patrick Gower: On Weed smoked the competition on Wednesday, averaging 5.4% – 9.0% of the core commercial demographics.
It was most popular with Three’s target demo, 25-54, blitzing TVNZ 2’s repeat of 8 Out of 10 Cats does Countdown (3.5%) and TVNZ 1’s World’s Busiest Train Stations (2.5%).
Not only did it carry all the key demos but also viewers aged 5+ (7.3%).
The show’s popularity was helped by lead-in Grand Designs NZ winning its slot across the board, with demo averages of 4.8% – 7.3%.
In the 25-54 demo it averaged 7.2% vs 5.3% for TVNZ 1’s MasterChef Australia and 3.8% for TVNZ 2’s Have You Been Paying Attention?.
TVNZ 2 rebounded at 9.30, when Michael McIntrye’s Big Show won its slot with averages of 1.4% – 5.5%.
It averaged 2.3% of 25-54s vs 1.3% for TVNZ 1’s Coronation Street and 2.8% of Hawaii Five-O.
While H5O technically won the hour, it was boosted by a huge lead-in from Weed — but this viewership plummeted from an opening 5.7% to a closing 1.7%.
As a result, MMBS won three of the four quarter-hour segments opposite H5O.
Earlier, the contest between Seven Sharp and The Project was unusually tight, with the latter beating the former in the 18-49 and 18-39 demos.
Three won the night in the 25-54 and 18-49 demos, and TVNZ 2 in the 18-39 and household shopper demos.
On Tuesday, TVNZ 1 won the night in all the key demos except 18-39, thanks to the popularity of The Chase, 1 News at 6pm and Seven Sharp.
But TVNZ 2 dominated the rest of primetime with Shortland Street, Celebrity Treasure Island, Seven Year Switch and Grey’s Anatomy.
Three’s only win of the night was Married at First Sight NZ in the HHS demo.
