HD Ratings: X Factor Beats Captain Jack
TV2’s network HD movie premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides challenged but couldn’t sink Sunday’s X Factor NZ semi-finals.
The latest in the blockbuster franchise averaged 8.9% -10.9% of the key demographics over nearly three hours compared to 9.9% – 11.6% for X Factor’s 95-minute broadcast.
Pirates won its first hour among household shoppers, and was neck-and-neck with X Factor’s for adults 18-49.
But otherwise the talent quest and a re-run of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (5.7% – 8.3%) dominated enough for TV3 to win the night overall.
TV One’s new British drama, Mr Selfridge, made a solid start in the face of this competition, with its movie-length premiere averaging 6.3% of adults 25-54 and 3.5% – 5.3% of the other key demos.
That was on the back of The Food Truck rating a below-average 4.3% – 7.2%.
The weekend’s other new HDs dramas, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Blue Bloods, didn’t bow as strongly.
In its 9.30 Saturday berth, TV3’s Tom Selleck vehicle averaged only 3.1% – 6.2%, which was down on CSI: NY’s average in the same slot.
Miss Fisher, which started an hour earlier, averaged 1.9% – 4.9%, on the back of 3.5% – 4.2% for Dishing Up Australia With Al Brown, 5.3% – 6.7% for Coasters, and 6.3% – 8.6% for Hyundai Country Calendar.
TV2’s premiere of Mitre 10 Dream Home: Offcuts averaged 4.0% – 7.3% to beat Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals while The Voice Australia easily won its slot with 6.2% – 8.6%.
The Voice also dominated Friday night, with 6.6% – 10.5% opposite House Rules’ 3.6% – 5.7% and The Graham Norton Show’s 5.5% – 7.6%.
