HDTV Heads-Up: Fringe, Human Target
In a surprise but savvy HD counter-programming move, TV2 is bringing forward the new season of Fringe to screen 9.30pm Tuesdays, opposite TV3’s Nurse Jackie.
The premiere will air after the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy, on July 20, in an oddly-matched double-bill.
It will be fascinating to see which series becomes Fringe’s lead-in the following week, given it will have to compete with TV3’s HD juggernaut, Outrageous Fortune, which starts its sixth and final season on July 13.
TV3’s unexpected switching of Outrageous Fortune from 9.30pm Tuesdays to 8.30pm would have driven TV2’s rescheduling of Fringe, which would have been earmarked for one of the network’s Wednesday sci-fi slots once V’s completed its double-episode run.
Rather than try to out-gun Outrageous Fortune with like-minded programming, as it did with Grey’s Anatomy vs House, and does on Sundays with The Big Bang Theory and The Middle vs The Simpsons and Modern Family, expect TV2 to offer a male-skewing alternative, probably the graphic novel action hour, Human Target.
It stars Fringe’s Mark Valley and hopefully will screen in HD; the Blu-ray of season one goes on sale in the US in September.

How disappointing after the advertised programming – 7th September and the previous week, to have replacement films followed by a late viewing of Fringe the first time , then not at all the next week.We really enjoy the programme Fringe.
