HDTV Heads-Up: January 5-11

It’s another dull week for free-to-air HD viewers but the good news is the networks are about to jump-start their new seasons.

Publication embargoes prevent me from disclosing details. But TV2 and TV3 will launch new and returning HD series a week or two earlier than normal from January 12.

In the meantime, you may as well trial that Fatso or QuickFlix subscription during the second week of January as there’s scant HD content to keep you hooked on air.

The only HD premiere is TV2’s Sunday movie, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which will air opposite TV3’s Monsters vs Aliens.

TV3 will follow the ‘toon with another movie re-run, Meet the Spartans, and TV2 is dusting off Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on Tuesday and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on Wednesday.

TV3 concludes Hamish & Andy’s Caravan of Courage: Australia vs New Zealand on Thursday while guesting on Rove LA the same night are Michael Buble, Delta Goodrem and Rob Riggle.

Friday’s Graham Norton Show features Martin Freeman, Dawn French and Lee Mack.

TV One will re-run Primeval NZ on Sunday, the HD doco that was the fifth most popular NZ On Air-funded programme of 2011/12.

I see TV3 have got King Kong coming up … hope it’s in HD 🙂

  2. ‘fraid not, Trevor. The original licence for King Kong was struck under an earlier deal with NBC-Universal. Even though the deal was renewed in 2011, only content contracted after that date is HD; everything prior remains SD.

  3. AW…SO annoying 🙁

  4. Last time I saw KK on TV it was in the wrong aspect ratio. Come to think of it, so was LOTR
