HDTV Heads-Up: June 2-8

A two-hour HD docudrama about Ernest Shackleton’s disastrous trip to the South Pole in 1914 will screen at Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

Shackleton’s Captain was co-written and directed by Leanne Pooley (The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls) and will air on June 3 (TV One, 9.30).

It’s billed as revealing the truth behind Captain Frank Worsley’s “spectacular rescue” of the expedition that cost 28 lives when the ship Endurance became trapped in pack ice off the Antarctica coast.

Shackleton’s Captain is based on the biography Frank Worsley: Shackleton’s Captain and stars Craig Parker in the title role.

As for other HD highlights of the week starting June 2:

Touch returns to Sunday nights on TV3 — but will screen late-night, after the 8.30 movie, which means the June 3 episode will air 11.30pm!

It’s funny how all the good shows are on late at night … Oh well, good to see Touch back 🙂

  2. Almost Human, Believe, The 100, Resurrection … why is the channel not playing them yet if they want big ratings?

  3. The 100 can be viewed ahead of broadcast at TVNZ Ondemand while Resurrection is due on air shortly. I, too, am surprised Almost Human hasn’t aired yet given Karl Urban’s starring role.

  4. I see Friends is back – how annoying. Why not something new? If not, you will lose more ratings, so please toughen up.
