HDTV Heads-Up: May 14-20

Season four of Private Practice will be the first to air here in HD

Two reality series will make their HD debuts the same week as three top-rating dramas begin new seasons in HD.

Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice will return with first-run episodes on May 17 (TV2, 8.30/9.30pm) — the latter for the first time in HD — while Sons of Anarchy will kick-start its third season on May 18 (TV3, 9.25pm), the same night season one of Hawaii Five-0 resumes (TV3, 8.30pm).

Earlier in the week sees the start of Situation Critical (TV One, 8pm Monday), a series about organ transplants in NZ, and the self-explanatory Australian Federal Police (TV3, 8pm Tuesday) – which precedes the 7.30pm return of What’s Really in Our Food? in HD.

The week of May 14-20 also stands out for VIP guest stints in Friends, CSI and The Good Wife.

On May 15, Michael J Fox plays a pharmaceutical company lawyer who exploits his Parkinson’s Disease for courtroom advantage in The Good Wife (TV3, 10.30pm); on May 16, Justin Beiber makes his second and last appearance in CSI (TV3, 8.30pm); and on May 17, Charlton Heston tells Friends’ Joey to “put some pants on kid so I can kick your butt”.

Also of note: TV3’s Saturday night double-bill of the movies, In Her Shoes and Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction.
