HDTV Heads-Up: November 10-16
Nurse Jackie at last is returning to TV3’s night shift.
The network that aired the original season within six weeks of its US broadcast has sat on the fourth for six months.
Indeed, originally it had another HD comedy/drama slotted for post-Homeland on Mondays, House of Lies, which TV Guide dubbed “a pitiless, biting satire of the debauched state of American big business” and “one of the smartest, funniest shows of the new year”.
The reviews also were strong for Edie Falco’s fourth reason as the junkie nurse who at last confronts her addiction head-on by going to rehab.
Said Time magazine of the pivotal plot development: “The people around Jackie made me stick with this show even when its main storyline was going nowhere, but now that it’s committed to really engaging with its title character, it’s become appointment TV for me again.”
Also of note in HD for the week starting November 10:
❑ A repeat of the Hugh Grant-Julia Roberts comedy, Notting Hill, on Sunday (TV3, 8.30)
❑ A re-run of Drug Bust from Wednesday (TV3, 8.05), after a half-hour edition of The Block Australia
❑ Shameless’ Emmy Rossum, Lost’s Matthew Fox and Archer’s Aisha Tyler on Thursday’s Rove LA (TV3, 9.30)
❑ X-Men’s Rebecca Romjin guest starring as a ruthless spy in Thursday’s Chuck (TV2, 10.35) – she has just been cast as an ex-Secret Service agent who tackles criminal cases in the pilot for a series based on the King and Maxwell books by David Baldacci
❑ An all-star 007 line-up on Friday’s Graham Norton Show (TV3, 8.30): Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench and Skyfall villain Javier Bardem (incidentally, Norton won’t air on November 2 because of an extra-long The X Factor USA which pushes 7 Days back to 10pm and pre-empts Jono and Ben at Ten).
