HDTV Heads-Up: October 1-7

TV2 isn’t waiting until next year to premiere 2012 in HD.

The doomsday blockbuster will have its free-to-air debut on October 2, opposite TV One’s HD premiere of The Young Victoria.

Completing the HD movie hat-trick on TVNZ that week will be a TV2 re-run of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on October 7 — the same night TV2 launches the second and final season of Human Target in HD.

TV One also will re-run in HD the NZ drama, Until Proven Innocent, on October 1, which is when TV3 will resume Rove’s HD stablemate, Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year, but at the earlier hour of 7.30pm.

The October 2 episode of Raising Hope will guest star My Name is Earl’s Jason Lee while taking over TV3’s 9.30pm Wednesday HD crime drama slot is The Borgias.

Reviews for the Tudors-style drama, which stars Jeremy Irons as “history’s most debauched pope”, ranged from “you won’t be disappointed” (Chicago Sun-Times) to: “Apart from looking for Godfather homage moments, there isn’t more to root for here than there is at a cage fight” (Wall Street Journal).
