HDTV Ratings: April 20-22

TV One was on an HD ratings roll at the weekend, with Call the Midwife, The Food Truck and Hyundai Country Calendar dominating their time slots.

Sunday night newcomer Call the Midwife delivered sturdy ratings for the 9.30 hour, averaging 7.3% of TV One’s 25-54 audience compared to Monster-in-Law’s 6.9% and House’s 2.9%.

It was down on the previous week’s season finale of Offspring, and wasn’t as popular with younger demographics and household shoppers, losing to TV2’s movie, but was still well ahead of House.

House’s HD lead-in, Touch, averaged only 3.0%-5.6%. It was least watched by HHS and although the 25-54 viewership didn’t compare badly with the competition, it was still half that of lead-in 60 Minutes.

Earlier in the night, The Food Truck overtook TV2’s re-run of HD hit The Big Bang Theory as the most watched show at 7pm.

It won every key demo except TV2’s 18-39, averaging 11.1%-13.2% compared to Bang’s 11.0%-12.6%.

On Saturday at the same time, Hyundai Country Calendar at last bounced back with a 25-54 rating of 11.2% and an 18-49 rating of 9.1%, easily its best performance so far this season.

It didn’t rate as well in the 18-39 and HHS demos but still narrowly won the slot.

At 7.30, Terra Nova continued to maintain its modest audience, drawing 3.8%-4.7% of the older demos and HHS opposite American Idol.

However, the HD premiere of The Wolfman proved toothless against the competition, averaging only 3.0%-4.1%.

On Friday, NZ viewers abandoned Titanic as quickly as those in the UK and US, with episode two topping out at 4.0% of 25-54 year-olds and sinking as low as 2.0% of 18-39 year-olds.

Most viewers see-sawed between American Idol on TV2 and Glee and a best-of Graham Norton Show compilation on TV3.

Idol dominated but Norton won the 18-39 demo and split the HHS vote.
