HDTV Ratings: December 12-18

TV2’s Sunday movie ratings were way up with its HD premiere of Up.

It rated gangbusters in all the key demographics, ranging from 12.6% of TV2’s target audience, 18-39 year-olds, to 17.2% of household shoppers with kids.

TV3’s HD re-run of Date Movie was competitive with TV2’s repeat of Bad Santa among HHS/kids, but trailed it in the other demos, while TV3’s late-night HD movie, Phat Girlz, rated only a couple of points lower than Date Movie.

TV3’s Michael Buble Christmas bombed in all the key demos on Saturday, rating only 2.2%-3.3%, and TV One’s Keeping Up With the Joneses couldn’t keep up with TV2’s movie, Santa Clause 2.

TV3 won the night pm Friday, with its HD combo of The X Factor USA and The Graham Norton Show.

But on Thursday, X Factor was largely beaten by TV2’s reality line-up while on Wednesday, TV3’s HD screening of Johnny English finished third after TV2’s comedies and TV One’s HD comedy/drama, Winners and Losers.

However, TV One’s other HD comedy/drama of the night, Harry’s Law, was out-rated by the competition, except among 25-54 year-olds.

On Tuesday, TV2’s Celebrity Apprentice continued to lose ground, drawing only 4.9%-6.6% of the key demos.

Meanwhile, TV2’s season finale of Shortland Street on Friday was up several ratings points on the previous Friday, averaging 15.2% of 18-39 year-olds compared to Close Up’s 3.7% and Campbell Live 2.7%.

It also drew 3-4 times the viewership of its competition in other key demos.
