HDTV Ratings: January 18-22

Last night’s HD clash of the critters was largely a draw.

TV2’s G-Force was tops with 18-39 and 18-49 year-olds: respectively 7.7% vs 7.3% for TV3’s Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and 7.1% vs 6.4%.

But the Madagascar sequel was much more popular among household shoppers with kids: 8.2% vs 6%.

With 25-54 year-olds, each movie premiere rated 6.1%.

TV3’s HD re-run of Meet the Spartans was at least a point ahead of TV2’s SD repeat of Blades of Glory in the age demographics.

But the 300 spoof lost to the ice-skating champs spoof by the same margin among HHS/kids.

TV3 suffered badly on Friday — a night it usually wins — without The Graham Norton Show to shore up its schedule.

A two-hour SD edition of The X Factor Australia was hammered by TV2’s two-hour premiere of American Idol, with the result the HD comedies Come Fly With Me and Super City were down sharply.

TV2’s season-three premiere of The Vampire Diaries at 10.30 rated as would be expected for such a late slot, with 3.4% of 18-39s and 3.7% of HHS/kids.

Meanwhile, TV One’s Wednesday night resurrection of HD comedy/dramas Winners & Losers and Harry’s Law rated below their pre-Christmas season averages – 6.6% and 4.4% of 25-54s respectively – opposite TV2’s penultimate instalment of Falling Skies.

The Steven Spielberg production posted some of its best numbers yet: 7.4% of 25-54s, 6.8% of 18-49s, 6% of 18-39s and 7.3% of HHS/kids.
