HDTV Ratings: July 12-15

Even in re-runs, The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom on steroids.

The weekend’s repeats easily won their slots, although the race was much tighter 8pm on Sunday, when Sheldon and the gang faced competition from the 50th anniversary tram crash episode of Coronation Street.

The serial averaged an unusually high 6.4%-12.6% of key demographics, and largely won the hour with 25-54 year-olds.

The season finale of Mike & Molly, which aired opposite Coro St’s first half-hour, averaged 9.5%-11.7% — between the 7pm episode of Big Bang rating 9.6%-12.5% and the 8pm re-run, 12.6%-16.3%.

The penultimate episodes of Planet Dinosaur and Golden respectively averaged 6.7%-11.3% and 4.7%-6.9%.

TV3’s HD premiere of Get Him to the Greek may as well have been double-Dutch to most viewers, as it averaged only 3.7%-5.5% — or typically half the viewership of TV2’s The Spy Next Door.

On Saturday, Ice Road Truckers plummeted from last week’s season high to average only 4.1%-5.7%, ahead of CSI’s 4.6%-5.5% and CSI: Miami’s 4.3%-5.6%.

At 7pm, Hyundai Country Calendar rated 6.6%-11.0% against ITM Fishing Show’s 2.1%-3.4%.

Friday’s season finale of Glee improved on previous weeks but still didn’t do encore numbers — only 4.3%-4.8% — while The Graham Norton Show had to settle for 7.0%-8.4% opposite The Voice’s 8.2%-11.2% and another disastrous 1.2%-4.1% outing for Vera.

On Thursday, episode four of The Block slipped a notch to average 8.0%-9.2% against Rescue 1’s 12.5%-15.7%.

Bones drew 4.2%-6.4%, or roughly half the audience of its TV One and TV2 competition, while Episodes could maintain only a third of the viewership that Mrs Brown’s Boys delivered.

Still rating solidly at 10.30 is Fringe, with a remarkable 3.5%-4.9% average.
