HDTV Ratings: July 18

This evening TVNZ reported Shortland Street’s extended winter season concluded last night with a 2011 ratings record for the serial: 834,200 people tuned into the movie-length special.

This was a rating of 20.6%, meaning that the episode had an average audience of 20% of all New Zealanders.

In TV2’s target demographic of 18-39 year-olds, the programme posted a massive 54% share — or nearly a quarter of all 18-39 year-olds.

In TV2’s secondary target demographic of household shoppers with kids, Shortland Street earned a 51% of HHS/kids watching TV at the time and a 30.1% rating.

Producer Steven Zanoski attributed the results to a dedicated team effort.

“Thanks are owed to all the cast and crew here at Shortland Street for continuing to dedicate their hearts and souls to making this drama a success.”

The “winter finale” delivered a huge 18-39 lead-in to the season finale of Desperate Housewives, which drew 17.5% of this demo, 16.4% of 18-49 year-olds, 15.7% of 25-54 year-olds and 21.9% of HHS/kids.

TV2’s new 9.30pm drama, Body of Proof, made a solid debut, with 9.1% of 18-39 year-olds and 13.6% of HHS/kids.

TV3’s HD premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen averaged 10.7% of 25-54 year-olds compared to 10.1% for TV One’s Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour and 7.3% for Castle.

Regretably after watching the first two episodes of Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour we won’t be tuning in again. Positive and familiar style of filming but the character dynamics and storylines are just not grabbing us. Some very good alternatives currently and the original CM will return eventually.
