Nothing Trivial's Nicole Whippy

Nothing Trivial slipped from its historically high-rating premiere last night but HD newcomer The Walking Dead rated above its predecessor, Drop Dead Diva.

Dead drew 8.5% of TV2’s target audience, 18-39 year-olds, versus 7.2% for Diva’s season finale.

And with 25-54 year-olds, the demographic TV One and TV3 covet, it rated nearly two-and-a-half-points higher, with 8.8%.

However, that didn’t dent Sons of Anarchy’s appeal, which scored a higher 25-54 rating — 7.9% — than the previous week.

And Anarchy’s popularity with household shoppers with kids remained unchallenged: 10.5% versus Dead’s 6.2%.

TV One’s new HD local drama, Nothing Trivial, was down in all the demos: 11.6% of HHS/kids (13% last week); 11% of 25-54 (13.3%); and 9.3% of 18-49 (11.7%).

TV3’s penultimate broadcast Survivor: Redemption Island also slipped a couple of points in the major demos while TV2’s Tuesday HD duo, Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, had mixed results: the latter was up in all the demos but the former was down with 18-39 year-olds and HHS/kids, possibly because it started half-an-hour later than usual due to an extra-long episode of My Kitchen Rules.

Meanwhile, TV One will repeat episode two of Nothing Trivial 8.30pm Friday after analogue viewers lost their TV One and TV2 signals from 9.11pm-9.22pm last night.

“It is believed a power supply problem in an aspect ratio converter at TVNZ’s Auckland Television Centre resulted in the outage,” a spokesperson says.

“Both the main and back up power source to a particular unit failed, before transmission was restored with an alternate power source. TVNZ apologises to everyone who had their evening viewing disrupted.”

For the same reason, TV2 will re-run last night’s SD premiere of Happy Endings at 7pm on Saturday andThe Walking Dead at 10.40pm on Sunday (even though the latter wasn’t affected by the outage).
