HDTV Ratings: Kung Fu Panda vs Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Sunday’s free-to-air HD premiere of Kung Fu Panda helped TV3 to win the night with 18-49 year-olds, but it largely came off second-best against TV2’s latest Harry Potter instalment, The Order of the Phoenix.
Last night TV3 averaged 23.7% of 18-49 year-olds, its traditional audience, and 23.9% of TV2’s target audience, 18-39 year-olds.
TV2’s 18-39 rating was the same and it drew 21.5% of 18-49 year-olds.
Panda averaged 7.7% of 18-49 (compared with Phoenix’s 8.5%) and 7.3% of 18-39 (8.8%).
But while Panda didn’t win outright, TV3 built on its audience with the movie, Two for the Money, whereas TV2’s Quarantine lost more than half of its Phoenix lead-in.
Meanwhile, the Kung Fu Panda sequel, Kaboom of Doom (pictured), is scheduled to open in NZ cinemas on July 7 — a week ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
