HDTV Ratings: March 1-5

Revenge has become a runaway hit for TV2, with both Monday’s original episode and Sunday’s late-night repeat dwarfing the competition.

Last night’s episode averaged 12.0% of household shoppers and 8.3%-9.0% of the other key demographics, making it almost as popular as lead-in Desperate Housewives.


Sunday’s 10.30pm re-run of the previous week’s episode also rated extraordinarily well, with 4.1%-4.9% of key demos – which was well up on TV3’s same-week re-run of The Almighty Johnsons (1%-3%).

However, Monday’s Revenge did face stiff competition for 25-54 viewers from TV One’s Person of Interest, which rated 7.1%.

And in the same demo, TV One’s Criminal Minds proved exceptionally competitive with Desperate Housewives, averaging 9.1% versus the latter’s 9.6%.

In the same slot, TV3’s Homeland is rating a consistent 6.3%-6.7% across the board.

From 7.30pm-8.30pm, TV3’s comedies Last Man Standing and Modern Family were down on the previous week, as were TV One’s higher-rating Piha Rescue and Rapid Response.

However, Monday’s top-rating HD screening of Home & Away did deliver 3 News the kind of lead-in that helped it to beat One News.

Meanwhile, unusually high interest in Sunday’s newsmags cost Mike & Molly viewers while ratings for lead-in The Big Bang Theory also slipped as The Politically Incorrect Guide to Grown Ups rebounded.

The Big C was steady, with 4.7% of 25-54 and 18-49 year-old viewers, and 5.2% of HHS.

Saturday’s second episode of Terra Nova was competitive with TV2’s American Idol  in the 25-54 and 18-49 demos, where the talent quest was barely a point ahead, but was resoundingly thrashed in the 18-39 and HHS demos.

Similarly, the first half of TV3’s HD movie, Big Momma’s House 2 lost to Idol but won its second hour among HHS and 25-54s.

Idol also owned Friday night, with Glee averaging 4.7%-6.1% and The Graham Norton Show 5.5%-7.8%, to finish second in their slots.

Thursday’s Once Upon a Time once again pounded TV3’s Bones, with ratings of 11.0%-13.6% compared to the latter’s 5.7%-10.0%.
