HDTV Ratings: November 19-25

The return of the Auckland-based Zoo on Sunday walloped TV3’s Aussie variation, Wildlife at the Zoo.

The season premiere averaged 6.3% – 11.2% of the key demographics compared to the competition’s 3.3% – 6.1%.

The Zoo preceded the two-hour semi-final of  NZ’s Got Talent, which averaged an untouchable 10.9% – 18.8%.

Saturday’s HD premiere of Pan Am rated 1.9% – 4.2% against CSI: Miami’s 4.1% – 5.9% off the back of CSI: New York’s 3.2% – 5.6%.

At 7pm, Annabel Langbein The Free Range Cook: Simple Pleasures averaged 3.3% – 8.8% opposite On the Grill’s 3.7% – 5.0%.

Friday’s The X Factor USA (6.2% – 9.4%) largely out-rated Two and a Half Men (6.7% – 7.8%) but lost to The Big Bang Theory (9.3% – 10.9%).

And it was an unusually tight contest between The Voice (5.1% – 7.7%) and The Graham Norton Show (6.2% – 8.0%), with the latter having dropped sharply since its season premiere two weeks earlier.

As for the rest of the week’s ratings highlights:

❑ While’s Thursday’s Person of Interest re-runs have improved week by week, its 3.1% – 6.3% average was still less than lead-in Coronation Street and lead-out Mrs Brown’s Boys

Rove LA has turned into a steady performer, with Thursday’s edition rating 4.3% – 5.3% off the back of The X Factor USA’s 9.2% – 12.2%

❑ Ratings remain variable for The Block, with Wednesday’s episode being more popular than Monday or Tuesday’s (6.1% – 8.7%)

❑ Despite being a big hit in the US, Revolution continues to underperform on Wednesdays, with last week’s episode averaging only 3.7% – 8.1% compared to HD lead-out The Walking Dead’s 3.3% – 6.7%

❑ Monday’s Homeland notched up season highs of 5.3% – 8.9% opposite Grey’s Anatomy’s 8.2% – 11.4% and The Suspects’ 7.0% – 11.6%

Homeland’s HD stablemate Nurse Jackie improved in its second week, averaging 3.2% – 4.0% against Private Practice’s 5.8% – 8.5% and Unforgettable’s 2.3% – 5.5%.
